Lets get started!

Barbara Silkstone

Should your heroine sound like you?

By Barbara Silkstone

Giddy with excitement I am stepping into the world of audio books. I have started the process of bringing my snarky heroine Wendy Darlin into the ear buds of millions of listeners. Well, maybe millions is a bit optimistic. But Wendy and I are like that.

Wendy supplements her Miami real estate broker income by reverse tombraiding. She returns rare antiquities, often with hilarious results. In the first Wendy book, WENDY AND THE LOST BOYS, our gal is kidnapped and held on a super-yacht by a Ponzi-king who has overdosed on UpUGo. The little blue pills have given him a longer than four-hour problem.

In LONDON BROIL, Wendy is in a frantic race against time and a murderer as she searches for the Last Lost Boy hidden somewhere in London, while a killer heat wave invades the city. This fall, Wendy will find romance and rascals in CAIRO CAPER.

I love the idea of hearing Wendy’s words spoken. I signed with Amazon’s Audible ACX to put the first two Wendy books on audio. After listening tosix delightful narrators, I found my Wendy. Her voice was perfect. Plus when the actress read the male parts she tweaked the tones just enough so the reader could tell the good guys from the crooks.

Like a kid with a new toy, I played the audition for members of my writers group.

“That’s not your voice,” they said, puzzled.

“It’s not supposed to be. She’s a professional narrator.”

They scratched their heads. “But you are Wendy.”

I wondered. We pour our alter egos into our characters. Their thoughts, their passions, their daring stunts are us if we had the guts. But are they our Doppelgängers?

My biggest challenge lurks just around the corner. THE SECRET DIARY OF ALICE IN WONDERLAND, AGE 42 AND THREE-QUARTERS holds a basketful of crazy characters. Alice is a sweet but feisty businesswoman. She falls for a British conman based on his perfect upper-crust baritone voice. Her London lothario comes to Miami with a stalking ex-wife and a cockney sidekick. Finding a woman to narrate Alice’s diary while occasionally sounding like John Cleese, a shrill British housewife, and a cockney hustler will not be easy.

I love my fans and the fact that they share my wackiness. I have two books published with a third in the works based on characters that wear Morphsuits. The skintight spandex suits are a crazy fad that’s sweeping the globe. Check them out on FaceBook. A dear reader shared her experience in trying to determine if characters could be heard speaking through the spandex masks that cover the heads and faces ofMorphsuiters. As she didn’t own a Morphsuit, she pulled her Spanx over her head and talked to herself in the mirror. “I couldn’t heard myself very well,” she said. The vision of her chatting with a tummy-tamer over her head was heartwarming to this author. Love you, fans!

About the Author
Barbara Silkstone is the best-selling author of Criminally Funny Fables series that currently includes: The Secret Diary of Alice in Wonderland, Age 42 and Three-Quarters;Wendy and the Lost BoysZo White and the Seven Morphs;Cold Case Morphs; and London Broil.

For further giggles and a touch of true fiction try: The Adventures of a Love Investigator, 527 Naked Men and One Woman.

Silkstone’s writing has been described as “perfectly paced and pitched – shades of Janet Evanovich and Carl Hiaasen – without seeming remotely derivative. Fast moving action that shoots from the hip with bullet-proof characterisation.”

Wendy and the Lost Boys

When a deathbed promise to a friend leaves Wendy Darlin, feisty Miami real estate broker for billionaires, trapped on a super-yacht with Ponzi-king, Charlie Hook, she’s forced to join him on a quest to recover his hidden treasure, one step ahead of modern day ruthless pirates.

C.M Stunich

C. M. Stunich was raised under a cover of fog in the area known simply as Eureka , CA. A mysterious place, this strange, arboreal land nursed Caitlin’s (yes, that’s her name!) desire to write strange fiction novels about wicked monsters, magical trains, and Nemean Lions (Google it).  She currently enjoys drag queens, having too many cats, and tribal belly dance.

Always a fan of the indie scene and ‘sticking it to the man’, Ms Stunich decided to take the road less traveled and forgo the traditional publishing route. You can be assured though the she received several rejections as to ensure her proper place in the world of writers before taking up a friend’s offer to start a publishing company. Sarian Royal was born, and Ms. Stunich’s books slowly transformed from mere baking chocolate to full blown tortes with hand sculpted fondant flowers. C.M. is a writer obsessed with delivering the very best and scours her mind on a regular basis to select the most unusual stories for the outside world.

Finding Never

And a small sneek peak at Finding Never the second in the trilogy coming in Feb.

Ty is an enigma to me.  He's still the wounded soul that I met at the bar, but he's also something different now. I can't quite put my finger on it, but when he looks at me, his eyes are full of color and life that attracts me like a moth to flames. I'm just going to have to do my best not to get burned. Ty could do that now, so easily that he could reduce me to a pile of ash without my even knowing it. I've given him this massive hold over me and my proverbial heart is beating in the palm of his hand, in his ringed, calloused hand.
“Tell me about your sisters again,” Ty says sleepily. It's the middle of the day, but we're both exhausted
